So you’ve decided to take the plunge and book in for your first colonic irrigation treatment. That’s great news. You’ve taken the first step in supporting your body into good health. So now you want to make sure you get the very best out of your colonic hydrotherapy treatment. Here are some top tips for successful colonic irrigation treatment.

In terms of preparation it’s best practice to start to reduce your caffeine intake. If you’re a big coffee drinker then reducing your intake gradually in the 7 day run up to your appointment would be advisable. Reduce by 1 to 2 cups a day until you’re either caffeine free or down to 2 to 3 cups a day. As well as decreasing caffeine, lets also focus on hydration. We can hydrate by either drinking herbal or fruit teas, or simply drinking more plain water, ideally filtered, spring or mineral water. If you don’t like the taste or find it boring, funk it up a bit with the addition of lemon, lime, cucumber, mint, berries, whatever takes your fancy. Let the flavours infuse over night for the best taste.

Now, what about food? Are you eating a lot of convenience or processed foods? Ideally you would want to reduce these prior to your treatment. If the norm is to have a ready meal every night, perhaps reduce to every other night. Make fresh food with lots of veggies or salad. It doesn’t have to be laborious, a simple stir fry, omelette, or piece of fish or chicken would be ideal. The more healthy you make your food the more nutrition you take in, the healthier you will be.

My final tip, in order to take in as many nutrients as we can, we need not only to digest our food, but also assimilate it. To do this we need to chew our food thoroughly, at least 20 to 30 times each and every mouthful, until it’s like paste. We also want to encourage our digestion to work optimally and this requires us to engage our parasympathetic nervous system AKA ‘rest and digest’. So sit comfortably, relax and take your time when eating.
